Sources and method
Naira Converter is an automated tool that turns amounts between the Nigerian naira and other currencies using official rates. The figures come from the Central Bank of Nigeria, and every rate shown carries the date it applies to. Next to each figure you will find a small reference number that points to the sources list, so you can check where the rate came from.
How the rates are built
The central bank publishes rates for a set of currencies. For a currency it does not publish directly, the conversion is worked out through the dollar: the amount is first changed into US dollars at the official rate, then into the target currency. This is what "worked out through the dollar" means, and the result is only as precise as the official dollar rate behind it.
Dated rates and old rates
A rate is treated as old when the next scheduled publication has not arrived. After a long gap with no fresh official figure, the site stops showing that rate rather than carrying a stale figure forward.
What is not shown
- Bank buying and selling rates are not published here; only the official rate is used.
- No parallel-market figure is printed, because it is not an official rate and cannot be traced to a published source.
- Nothing is rounded for display beyond the decimals shown.
